The Duet 3 family of accessories expands with a new Scanning Z probe Probe - SPZ. This new peripheral is an inductive sensing board connected via CAN-FD; it uses inductive PCB coils to quickly build a mesh of printplane dots.
This speed of platen scanning comes from two key aspects of this probe:
- No movement in Z is required to read the distance to the plane.
- Individual readings occur very quickly.
In addition, an accelerometer was also added to the PCB so that the SZP board can also be used for input-shaping calibration.
Integration to an existing system and mounting of a Z Duet 3 scanning probe is easy, since the processing board has been specially separated from the coil used as a sensor (these two are connected together using a flat flexible cable). This allows the sensor board to be freely mounted, as only the coil needs to be next to the nozzle and close to the plane.
Please note: The SPZ probe enables rapid inductive scans of metal surfaces.
