Satin Engineering Black Edition is a printing plate for 3D printers that falls between smooth and textured variants.

Its finely powder-coated and lightly textured surface offers optimal adhesion, particularly suitable for materials such as PLA, TPU, PETG and PC (polycarbonate). This plate is compatible with a wide range of filaments, including TPU and ASA/ABS.

Key features:

• Satin finish: provides excellent adhesion for versatile materials such as PLA, PETG, and TPU. Ideal for prints that need extra support.
• Versatility of filaments: compatible with materials such as ASA, PC Blend, TPU, and more, but with some filaments the use of adhesives or brim is recommended.
• Easy adhesion and release: many prints come off on their own once cooled. For materials such as PLA/PETG, it may be necessary to flex the plate.
• Low maintenance: easy cleaning with 90% isopropyl alcohol and a microfiber cloth to keep the surface free of dust and grease.
• Durability: for prolonged printing with materials such as PC or PETG, the use of a protective adhesive barrier (e.g., glue stick) is recommended to prevent premature wear and tear.

Advantages:

• Excellent adhesion for most materials.
• Self-levelling surface: the flexibility of the plate makes release of the print easy after cooling.
• Easy cleaning and maintenance.
• Broad compatibility with various filaments, from common ones such as PLA, to more complex material blends such as PC ABS.

Disadvantages:

• Z-offset: Live Z value may need to be adjusted when changing plate type.
• Satin coating wear: over time, the coating may wear off due to nozzle cleaning in the non-printable area.
• Grease-sensitive: the surface must always be clean and free of grease to ensure proper adhesion.
• Need for protective adhesive for TPU and more challenging materials.

Care and maintenance:

• Clean with 90%+ isopropyl alcohol and a microfiber cloth.
• Remove prints only after complete cooling.
• Do not use sharp tools to remove printed objects; plastic spatulas are recommended.
• Do not use acetone or chemical cleaning agents

Considerations:

• Suitable for lighter magnets such as N38/N35, but not recommended for Voron Tap R8 with heavier magnets such as N52.
• Filaments such as filled PLA or ASA/ABS may require brim or reduced first layer speed to ensure good adhesion.
• The use of a protective layer when printing more abrasive materials such as loaded PC can extend the life of the plate.
