CO2 is a key factor in indoor air quality, as high levels can impair cognitive performance and human well-being.
The Gravity: SCD41 CO2 sensor is based on Sensirion's SCD41 mini CO2 sensor. The SCD41 uses the photoacoustic NDIR sensing principle and Sensirion's patented PAsens® and CMOSens® technologies, offering high accuracy, the most competitive price, and the most compact format on the market.
Signal compensation occurs directly on the chip through the integrated temperature and humidity sensor, while temperature and humidity data are also available as a separate output.
The SCD41 sensor detects the amount of energy absorbed by CO2 molecules. When the infrared emitter pulses, the CO2 molecules periodically absorb infrared light. This causes additional molecular vibrations, generating a pressure wave inside the measuring chamber. The higher the concentration of CO2, the greater the amount of light absorbed and, consequently, the greater the amplitude of this acoustic wave becomes. A microphone inside the gas chamber measures this wave, allowing the CO2 concentration to be accurately calculated.
