Isopropanol (IPA) is a highly volatile, flammable, colorless and transparent liquid that is used to remove and dissolve uncured resin from 3D printed parts in SLA and DLP. It is used in FDM 3D printing to clean components, print plates and polish some specific materials. Due to its rapid evaporation, it dries quickly. Therefore, the container should not be left open longer than necessary.
Application
Always wear gloves when handling IPA.
To remove uncured resin from SLA or DLP molded parts, fill the cleaning container with the amount specified by the manufacturer. To minimize waste, it is recommended that you pre-clean the parts before placing them in the cleaning container to extend the life of your fresh IPA. This can be done in a separate container with "dirty" IPA used for previous cleaning cycles or low evaporation cleaners such as DPM, TPM or PGDA. Place the finished press in the cleaning container and clean the parts for at least 5 min. or according to material manufacturers' guidelines. After the cleaning cycle, let the model dry and check if the surface is still sticky to the touch, repeat if necessary until the surface is no longer sticky. If it is still sticky, replace the IPA.
To clean the printing plates of FDM printers, it can be diluted with distilled water in a ratio of 70% isopropanol and 30% water.
To polish FDM 3D prints, follow the polishing device manufacturer's instructions.
